From County Data to Better Decisions

Practical and Responsible AI for Commissioners

Explore public data, test assumptions, and ask better questions. All 67 Florida counties are included.

Start here: Choose an activity below. No AI account is required. Each dashboard starts with Florida statewide; you can select any county.

Activity 1 • 5 minutes • Observed data

What changed?

Compare half-cent sales-tax distributions for state fiscal years ending June 30, 2025 and 2026.

Explore observed revenue changes
  1. Choose statewide or a county.
  2. Identify the recipient: county government, municipalities, or combined.
  3. Inspect the dollar change and percentage change.

Discuss: What can this comparison tell us—and what additional information would explain the change?

These are sales-tax distributions. They do not measure property-tax amendment impacts.

Activity 2 • 7 minutes • Modeled scenarios

What could change?

Explore county property-tax planning scenarios across FY2026–27, FY2027–28, and FY2028–29.

Explore property-tax scenarios
  1. Choose a county and fiscal year.
  2. Change one growth or offset assumption.
  3. Compare the remaining dollar gap and its share of the projected baseline.

Discuss: What evidence and authorization would you need before acting?

Uses 2025 levy anchors and historical June FAC estimates. County impact amounts have not been reverified against a current source.

Activity 3 • 12–15 minutes • Evidence and safeguards

How would we respond responsibly?

Connect fiscal uncertainty to data-center proposals, county AI productivity, privacy, and security. Choose your first three evidence requests in a fictional county case.

Explore fiscal resilience and AI decisions

An unscored discussion exercise. Selections are temporary, stay in the page, and are not submitted.

Read the two activities differently

Observed data describe reported distributions. Scenarios calculate what follows from selected assumptions. Neither alone explains causes or determines a policy decision.

The dashboards use different revenues and fiscal-year conventions. Do not add their changes together or present the scenario gap as an observed loss.

In the property-tax model, zero amendment loss in FY2026–27 is a transition assumption, not proof of no fiscal risk. Offsets are illustrative, not funding commitments or verified legal millage capacity.

Where does AI fit?

AI can help develop code, explain measures, and draft communications. People remain responsible for checking sources, calculations, assumptions, and public-facing claims. These dashboards use fixed calculations; they do not call a live AI model.

Three questions to take back to your county
  1. Which decision would benefit from clearer public data?
  2. Who should verify the data and approve the explanation?
  3. What small, measurable pilot could county staff and UF/IFAS Extension explore together?

Participation and privacy

This page and the dashboards do not submit or save your selections or collect written responses. If hosted online, the hosting provider may keep access logs.

For this activity, discuss your observations without sharing names, resident details, or confidential county information. A separate feedback platform can be introduced after its anonymity settings are checked.
